Grade 1 EFL Learning Stations

What a busy day for our Grade 1 EAL students!

Sations for Listening, Spelling, Writing, Reading and Speaking activities were set up. 

STATION 1: LISTENING

They used StarFall, Learn to Read activities. 

Here they read sentences independently. They listened to the audio to check proper pronunciation.

STATION 2: WRITING / SPELLING

This activity was differentiated according to each EAL students ability. 

They carefully listened to the sentences given and did their best to write it down. 

Fry Sight Words were used in the sentences to practice spelling. 

Importantly, they were given immediate feedback on (COPS) capitalization, punctuation, spelling and grammar so they know how they are doing as a writer. 

To practice vocabulary, the sentences given were related to their current unit, Senses.

STATION 3: PICTURE PROMPT

 Using this picture, the students free wrote about what they imagine to hear, see, smell, taste or touch. 

Seriously sounding out the words.

Still thinking.

Lastly, they read-a-loud short story books.

STATION 4: READ-A-LOUD

It was a busy and productive day for the EAL kids. More on independent work. A good opportunity for them to assess their own understanding on their different literacy skills.
